On the drive from Thimphu to Punakha we crossed the beautiful snow covered Dochula Pass from where the distant Himalayan ranges are visible.
At a height of 10,200 feet, the Dochula Pass has 108 stupas or chortens. These were built in memory of the Bhutanese soldiers killed in the 2003 war, against the Assamese insurgents who were using Bhutan as a base to raid India.
The weather was foggy with clouds quickly moving in and we got there just in time to get a peek of the Himalayan range in the distance. With clear skies, it would undoubtedly be a spectacular sight!
